A belated thanks from the core of my being to the Oregon Symphony, the Maybelle Community Singers, Carlos Kalmar, Measha Brueggergosman, Holland Andrews, Holcombe Waller, and the three incredible audiences in Portland who made the premiere of “emergency shelter intake form” so unbelievably memorable. At a time when 51 million families in this country cannot afford basic necessities—among them, housing, health care, child care, food, and transportation— the opportunity to address the crisis of poverty in America has been one of the most awe-inspiring experiences of my life.
